This is a short ESOL course to develop English skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Lessons are interactive, tailored to learners’ needs, and focus on everyday UK life and practical language use.
Learning outcomes include:
By the end of Session 2, learners will be able to introduce themselves and share basic personal information (name, address, nationality, work/study) in English, using at least four complete sentences.
By the end of Session 3, learners will be able to follow and respond to simple spoken instructions in English (e.g. in class, at the doctor, at work),with at least 80% accuracy in a listening task.
By the end of Session 4, learners will be able to read and understand short everyday texts in English (e.g. a notice, poster, or email), identifying the main idea and at least three key details.
By the end of Session 5, learners will be able to write a short paragraph (4–6 sentences) on an everyday topic, such as daily routine or hobbies, using correct word order and punctuation in at least 70% of sentences.
By the end of Session 5, learners will be able to take part in a short role play (e.g. at the shop, GP, or bus stop), speaking clearly enough to be understood and using at least five topic-related words or phrases.
By the end of Session 6, learners will be able to use at least 10 new words and phrases related to everyday life in the UK (e.g. shopping, health, community), correctly in spoken or written sentences.
By the end of Session 7, learners will be able to ask and answer at least five everyday questions (e.g. “Where is…?”, “How much is it?”, “What time does it start?”) appropriately in pair or group work.
By the end of the course, learners will be able to reflect on their progress by identifying at least two areas of improvement and two personal goals for using English in real-life situations.
This course will run – every Thursday – 25th September – 13th November 2025. No class will take place on 30th October.
This course is open to learners aged 19 years plus (in August ’25) who have moved to UK and need to learn English for daily communication, work, or integration into society. People who wish to improve their academic language skills. Non-native English speakers looking to enhance their language skills for job opportunities, career advancement, or professional development.
