About the event

Autumn Wellbeing Walk from Freshford to Bradford-on-Avon
From: Bristol Temple Meads, 10:43, to: Freshford
Returning from: Bradford-on-Avon
7.5 miles

Join us for a restorative Autumn journey through countryside and waterways, blending history, natural beauty and mindful moments. Throughout the walk we’ll pause for short optional stretches and mindfulness practices: listening to birdsong in the woodland, noticing the crunch of autumn leaves underfoot, or simply taking in the rich colours of the season. These opportunities to connect with your senses and nature make this walk a unique wellbeing experience.

We will begin in the village of Freshford with gentle grounding and stretches to awaken body and mind before setting off. Our route follows the River Frome past historic Freshford Mill, a 16th-century fulling mill, then winds through woodland towards the elegant Iford Manor Estate & Gardens, our first refreshment stop.

Crossing meadows beside the River Frome, we reach the evocative ruins of Farleigh Hungerford Castle. Nearby lies the Farleigh & District Swimming Club – Britain’s oldest river swimming club – before we continue to Westwood Quarry. If skies are clear, we may also glimpse the iconic Westbury White Horse.
Descending through woodland, we arrive at Avoncliff for our second break beside the striking Avoncliff Aqueduct, where the Kennet & Avon Canal spans the River Avon. Refreshed, we follow the tranquil canal towpath toward Bradford-on-Avon, watching narrowboats drift by and perhaps spotting herons along the water.

Our final destination, Bradford-on-Avon, offers historical treasures including the vast 14th-century Tithe Barn, the tiny 11th-century Saxon Church of St. Lawrence, the medieval Town Bridge with its “lock-up” cells, and the award-winning Bridge Tea Rooms. We’ll close with optional stretches and grounding to complete our autumn wellbeing journey.

Level of difficulty: Easy, with some hills
Terrain: Generally good paths, with occasional muddy or uneven sections – sturdy footwear recommended.
What to Bring: Water, food, and suitable clothing. Two refreshment breaks are planned.
Walk at your own risk; ensure personal safety and belongings are cared for.
