About Simon Waldram Photography Simon Waldram is an astrophotographer and educator known for blending technical mastery with poetic storytelling. With extensive experience capturing celestial phenomena across the UK and beyond, Simon’s workshops emphasize the philosophy of “earned, not given” imagery—where patience, preparation, and presence transform night photography into a profound creative journey. His teaching style is immersive and process-oriented, designed to inspire both technical growth and emotional connection to the night sky.
Workshop Overview Join Simon for an immersive night under October’s darkest skies. This workshop coincides with the New Moon, the peak of the Orionid meteor shower, and the rare visibility of two comets—C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) and C/2025 R2 (SWAN). Designed for photographers seeking both technical growth and creative depth, the session blends field instruction with quiet observation, storytelling, and earned imagery.
Celestial Highlights – Orionid Meteor Shower: Peak activity between 01:00–04:00, with up to 15 meteors/hour – Comet Lemmon: Green coma near Arcturus, visible after sunset – Comet SWAN: Corkscrew ion tail near Spica and Mars, low in the southwest – New Moon: Optimal conditions for deep-sky and transient light capture – Possible Aurora: Faint northern lights may be visible with strong geomagnetic activity, especially in northern UK regions
What You’ll Learn – How to scout and compose for meteor showers and comet trails – Camera settings and techniques for wide-field and telephoto night work – Exposure blending and interval shooting for dynamic skies – Creative approaches to foreground integration and emotional storytelling – Fieldcraft: working in remote locations, reading conditions, and staying safe
Recommended Gear – DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual controls – Wide-angle lens (14–24mm) and telephoto (85–200mm) – Tripod, intervalometer, headlamp (red light preferred) – Warm layers, snacks, and patience
