About the event

Artist talk with Zsófia Antalka, Eszter Metzing and Andrea Szilák
We are cordially inviting you to the closing event of the collective exhibition Carnivores! Artists from Budapest Zsófia Antalka, Eszter Metzing and Andrea Szilák are looking forward to sharing their thoughts and developing it into a discussion with their visitors and audience! Artist talk will be held in English language.

The project Carnivores is examining the archetype of the hunter, the associations of being a carnivore, and the issues of inclusion and intolerance. The visceral and philosophical state of being a predator, is permeated by the moral dilemma of aggression, and the urge of sustaining needs of mortality, also alliterating with socio-economic systems and behaviour patterns as well. The collaboration between artists Zsófia Antalka, Eszter Metzing and Andrea Szilák presents in their joint exhibition installations and spatial works including a range of diverse materials, made coherent by their common denominator in organic thinking and construction.

Zsófia Antalka (1994) graduated in Painting at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in 2022. Last year she debuted in two exhibitions: in March at the ACB Gallery in Budapest with the show Minotaur, and in June at Double Q Gallery in Hong Kong with The Garden of Fragility. In her art she examines female existence on conceptual, social, interpersonal and introspective levels. In her works, the female body appears primarily in its biological aspects through figurative representations, while the material aspects of the works are linked to traditional and contemporary techniques and materials associated with the female gender. She consciously employs aesthetic appearance as a tool necessary for representing female narratives and for restructuring official bodies of knowledge, while subverting didactic methods. This approach is also one of the central motivations of her creative activity.

Eszter Metzing (1992) graduated from the graphic art program at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in 2018. Her practice centers on phenomena related to sensation and memory, exploring both individual and social-psychological aspects of female experience. Her work is characterized by a sensual use of materials, often incorporating bold combinations such as latex, borosilicate, and glass, as well as textile installations. Since 2022, she has been a member of the Young Artists’ Association and the Association of Hungarian Graphic Artists. Represented by Inda Gallery in Budapest since 2021, she has held two significant solo exhibitions there, in 2021 and 2024. She regularly participates in group exhibitions in Hungary and made her debut at ISBN Gallery in 2021 as an artist duo with Stella Koleszár (aka lutum). In 2025, she will be a resident artist at both the Styrian Artist in Residence in Graz and the Artist in Residence Programme in Salzburg. She is also a member of Art Quarter Budapest (aqb), a contemporary art center and artist community.

Andrea Szilák (1991) graduaded from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, Department of Printmaking. She is currently doing her DLA studies at Hungarian University of Fine Arts and is a member of the Young Artists’ Association. In her artistic practice she examines symbols and metaphors, through which she explores the existential situation of the individual: the relationship with the self and the environment. She creates mainly installation and environmental works. Her works were exhibited in Hungary, Romania or Poland.
