About the event

BE Science Fair
All Brandon Elementary students are invited to participate in our upcoming science fair! Our science fair is designed to promote problem-solving skills and an enthusiasm for science. Submitting a science fair project is voluntary. To participate in this very fun, rewarding event, please fill out the form below: https://forms.gle/hUYbxFw8hr7LGPzm6

Science fair will be held on Thursday, February 19th at Brandon Elementary
4:30 pm - 5:30 pm - Check-in and Project Set-up
5:30 pm - Judging Begins, once your student has met the judges they can then walk around and visit other projects
~6:30 pm - Awards Ceremony

During the event, families can come and go to view the projects as they wish. Students will stand beside their projects and answer questions or present information to visitors from 5:30 pm -6:15 pm. This will be informal and relaxed but will allow students an opportunity to discuss their projects as visitors walk up if they would like!

Students may participate individually or on teams. No more than two members per team, and teams will be judged based on the grade of the oldest team member.

Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 projects in each grade level, and an overall school wide favorite project will be awarded the “Future Scientist Trophy.”

Scientific Experiment Project Requirement: The student(s) conducts an experiment using the scientific method and prepares a display board explaining the experiment. The display board must include: the question, background, hypothesis, description of experiment (materials and procedure), results, and conclusion. An example of an experiment question might be “What ratio of vinegar to baking soda produces the best chemical volcano eruptions?” Background would be any reading that is done about baking soda and vinegar reactions summarized in one or two sentences. A hypothesis for this project would be a prediction or guess about the best ratio. The description includes what was used for the experiment and how it was used. The results show what happened (photos or written description). The conclusion states the outcome of the experiment and a statement that answers the original question. An example judge rubric for how each project will be scored is attached.
