About the event

STORAGE
Join us for a deep dive into the subject of storage, the challenges and the solutions. Open to all with an interest in conservation.

About this Event

This year's conference is themed around Storage. We have a programme of talks and posters, on many aspects with speakers from the North and beyond plus the opportunity to share experiences, meet new colleagues and network.

It is open to all with an interest in conservation, including curators, archivists, conservators, students, interns and volunteers. There are bursaries available.

Tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided on arrival and lunch, all included in the ticket price. Please let us know any dietary requirements by January 15th.

Please note that the agenda for the day may be subject to change before the day of the conference.

Accessibility

To plan your trip, please see this link which includes details of accessibility: https://www.scienceandmediamuseum.org.uk/visit/accessibility

There are three accessible parking spaces for blue badge holders at the front of the museum. They are managed by the local council and operate on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. They have a maximum stay time of four hours. There are drop-off spaces at the front of the museum.

Access to the museum from the front of the building is via a wheelchair-accessible entrance and automatic doors. There is a welcome desk in the foyer of the museum where you will be greeted.

Lifts can be accessed from the museum foyer on Level 0, going to all levels of the museum. The lifts are wheelchair-accessible and have audio announcements, Braille and raised buttons. In the event of an evacuation, evacuation chairs will be used by trained staff.

Cubby Broccoli Cinema (conference hall) is located on Level 1. Wheelchair access requires use of the main museum lift. There is no natural light in the room. There is a hearing loop system fitted in the Cubby Broccoli Cinema. To access the system, you will need to ask staff for a hearing loop and then turn your hearing aid to the ‘T’ position. From the cinema doors, there is a ramped entrance/exit to the auditorium and seating for four wheelchair users. There are no toilets on Level 1. The nearest accessible toilet is on level 0. Lunch and refreshments will be served in Makespace on Level 4 and is accessible by the main museum lift.

Food allergies and requirements should be expressed when booking.

The museum tends to be quieter on weekday mornings outside of school holidays. There are no school bookings on the day of the conference. Our quiet room is located in the main foyer and has two sofas. It’s available for anyone who needs a calm, private space.
