A Yorkshire Christmas - Creative Writing Workshop with Alyson Faye

This two hour workshop will be led by The Craft House’s creative writing tutor, Alyson Faye.* It is suitable for all writers wherever you may be on your writing journey, from beginners to more advanced.

We will look at excerpts from the writings of the Brontes on a Christmas in Haworth, Dickens on writing ‘A Christmas Carol’, in Malton, Lewis Carroll’s ‘Christmas Magazines’ and soldier/artist, Rex Whistler’s memories of his Christmas party in Pickering in 1943 during World War 2.

There will be a visual presentation of images on the laptop to accompany the words of the above- mentioned writers, and we will look at the lyrics of some traditional Yorkshire Christmas carols.

For the second half of the workshop you will write your own Christmas-themed poetry or prose, using the images we’ve seen as prompts, with exercises to get you writing on offer. There will be an opportunity to work in pairs, and for feedback from the tutor during the session.

You can even design your own Christmas card and write the verses.

The emphasis is on having fun. All the exercises are tutor-led, with resources being provided by the tutor. Just bring your pen, or laptop or notepad.

*Alyson is an Amazon best-selling author, and editor, who has experience running an indie press (Black Angel Press). Her fiction and poetry, has been published in many anthologies and magazines. Her work has won and been short-listed in a number of competitions.
