Mød strygekvartetten Nightingale String Quartet og klarinettisten Jonas Frølund til en koncert med både splinterny og 130 år gammel musik.
I samarbejde med klarinettist og musikalsk iværksætter Jonas Frølund har Nightingale String Quartet, som er P2 Kunstner 2025, bestilt et helt nyt værk af den internationalt anerkendte, danske komponist Bent Sørensen (f. 1959).
Det nye værk har titlen "Moonbeams by Sunlight" og får sin første opførelse ved en række koncerter i efteråret 2025 – herunder hos os i Kernen i Madstedet denne lørdag.
Bent Sørensen fortæller om sit nye værk:
"Da jeg var ung, spillede jeg klarinet, og klarinetkvintetter var noget af det første, der vækkede mit komponisthjerte. Mozarts og Brahms’ kvintetter har altid været vigtige for mig – og måske har jeg holdt så meget af dem, at jeg først nu tør skrive min egen.
Titlen 'Moonbeams by Sunlight' beskriver på mange måder min musik: Enkle melodier, der dukker op fra støj og kompleksitet, og lys, der opstår ud af mørke. Jeg kunne ikke forestille mig et bedre ensemble til at spille værket end Jonas Frølund og Nightingale String Quartet."
Ved koncerten kan du bl.a. også høre det værk, som Bent Sørensen selv står på skuldrene af – nemlig Johannes Brahms’ elskede klarinetkvintet fra 1894. Et passioneret og stemningsfuldt stykke musik, der har været publikumsfavorit i over 100 år.
Koncerten varer ca. én time og er gratis – alle er velkomne.

Meet the Nightingale String Quartet and clarinettist Jonas Frølund for a concert featuring both brand-new and 130-year-old music.
P2 Artist of the Year 2025, the acclaimed Nightingale String Quartet, has teamed up with clarinettist and musical entrepreneur Jonas Frølund to commission a new piece by internationally renowned Danish composer Bent Sørensen (b. 1959).
The result is a work titled "Moonbeams by Sunlight", which the Nightingale String Quartet and Jonas Frølund will present at eight concerts across Denmark in autumn 2025 — including this Saturday at Kernen in Madstedet.
Bent Sørensen on the new work:
“As a child and young man, I played the clarinet, and clarinet quintets were among the first music that stirred my heart as a composer. I’ve returned to Mozart’s, Brahms’, and others’ quintets again and again — and perhaps they’ve been so sacred to me that I’ve only now dared to write one of my own.
The piece will be in 4–6 movements, and its title — taken from Robert Musil’s great novel The Man Without Qualities — ‘Moonbeams by Sunlight’ will cast its influence throughout.
Perhaps the title even describes all my music: light that comes from darkness — night music falling into the day. Simple melodies will emerge from noisy, complex textures, and the brightest music will rest atop a dark soundscape — sonic moonbeams transforming into dazzling sunlight.
The reason I’m finally tackling a clarinet quintet is, above all, because five outstanding musicians are ready. I can’t imagine a better ensemble than Jonas Frølund and the Nightingale String Quartet.”
The concert also features music by one of Bent Sørensen’s great predecessors: Johannes Brahms, whose famous and passionate Clarinet Quintet from 1894 has become a beloved favourite among classical music audiences around the world.
The Nightingale String Quartet and Jonas Frølund are thrilled to present this brand-new work by one of the leading Danish composers of our time — and to invite both new and seasoned listeners to an inspiring musical experience.
The concert lasts approx. one hour and is free to attend – everyone is welcome!
