"All I want is to be happy." Sound familiar? Have you heard you or anyone claim this desire for themselves or another? It is not uncommon to want to "just" be happy and, the Course says it is a reasonable desire to attain and hold. Yet, there are some fundamental Laws of mind that MUST be recognized for this to be possible. So yes, it is possible to be permanently happy while living in this world and the Course offers us a way to not only experience this, but then to share it in a way that does not proselytize, preach or demand. Happiness is actually your natural state and you just need to remember it and it resumes in your awareness. Right away you can see that this statement contradicts the worlds teaching of happiness being a condition that needs to be met BEFORE you can experience it.
