Today, everyone with a smart phone has the power of the internet at their fingertips. But how in the world wide web did we get here? UW Bothell faculty member and engineer Joseph Decuir presents a comprehensive survey of the roots of the internet, from telegraphy to the evolution of new applications, physical media, electronic processing, infrastructure, and protocols.
Joseph Decuir is a veteran of the tech industry and an expert in electrical and computer engineering. He is a lecturer in the Department of Engineering & Mathematics in the School of STEM at the University of Washington Bothell.
Before joining the School of STEM in 2016, Decuir worked in the electronics industry for 42 years. In the 1970s, he designed medical electronics. From there, he helped pioneer video gaming at Atari and Amiga. Joseph spent the 1980s paving the internet with dial-up modems. He then went on to contribute at Microsoft and Cambridge Silicon Radio, applying his talent and technical expertise to personal computers, dial-up networking, operating systems, and USB and Bluetooth technology.
