Step into a unique sensory experience where the past meets the present, image meets sound, and film lives again—live. Cinematic Symbiosis is an evening of live performance and silent film, co-presented by RPM Festival and Engauge Experimental Film Festival, that revives the tradition of live musical accompaniment with ten silent works from a wide range of contemporary experimental filmmakers.
Renowned musicians Lori Goldston (Seattle-based cellist and composer) and Greg Kelley (avant-garde trumpeter and sonic experimenter) will perform original, improvised scores. Goldston’s work spans classical, punk, drone, and everything in between—her sound is raw and immersive. Kelley, with a career rooted in experimental music, noise, and free jazz, transforms the trumpet into an instrument of unpredictable power and texture.
The film program, curated by Caryn Cline, filmmaker and co-founder of Engauge, showcases work from an international group of artists who explore form, texture, and meaning through analog and digital experimentation. Each filmmaker brings a distinct voice and vision to the screen:
