About the event

EPHEMERAL FIELD JOURNAL | SARAH SCHORR
Leica Gallery Boston is proud to present our upcoming exhibition, Ephemeral Field Journal, featuring the work of photographer Sarah Schorr.

About this Event

On Friday, January 9th, join the Leica Gallery Boston in celebrating the opening of our new exhibition, Ephemeral Field Journal with artist Sarah Schorr. Schorr’s Ephemeral Field Journal seeks a deeper understanding of how we care for the environment and for each other through an investigation of the effects of climate change on Monet’s garden. Over the last four years, Sarah Schorr conducted extensive work and research in Monet’s world– first as a Terra Foundation for American Art Fellow and then as the Munn Artist-in-Residence supported by Monet House and the Versailles Foundation. Monet constructed his water garden in order to view and experiment with the interplay of color and light in reflections. Through her experiences living and working in Giverny, France, Schorr understands and visualizes Monet’s spaces as a creative, living laboratory for “seeing.”

In Schorr’s work, water evolves into a reflecting pool for witnessing the fragility of nature in the face of climate disruption. Water is both the subject as well the method of her artwork as she combines photography, paint, and site-specific water samples into her composite works. This exhibition at Leica Boston brings together works from Schorr’s water projects in Denmark, France, and her very first home waterscapes in Massachusetts, USA.

Sarah Schorr is the Visual Artist-in-Residence at Harvard’s Center for the Study of World Religions (CSWR) working in collaboration with theologian and CSWR Director Charles Stang. Their work creates a philosophy of water that flows from swimming and experiencing nature in and around Walden Pond in Massachusetts.

Join us for the opening reception and artist talk on Friday, January 9th, from 6–9PM at Leica Gallery Boston. From 6-7PM Schorr will give an artist talk and speak about the work before opening up the general reception.
