Celebrate California Biodiversity Week with this exciting chance to hear from a top California mountain lion expert!
Dr. Winston Vickers will discuss the history of mountain lion research in Anza-Borrego and the surrounding region, and its impact on how mountain lions are viewed and adapted to by humans across the area. Mountain lions have been studied in San Diego County for 24 years, and in the nearby Santa Ana Mountains for even longer. This has generated a tremendous amount of knowledge about these animals and how they live and adjust to the expanding human footprint on the landscape. He will detail measures that have, to one degree or another, helped them persist in the face of increasing challenges, and what people can continue to do to assure that they are here fulfilling their important role in the ecosystem long term.
