Next Saturday, August 2, we are honored to welcome Professor Robin L Thomas from Penn State University to talk about the Royal Residences of Enlightenment Naples.
As King of Naples, Joseph Bonaparte would have been familiar with these impressive European residences and, as you can see, these opulent palaces would have been a far cry from the architecture he found on this side of the Atlantic!
Drawing from his second book project, titled, Palaces of Reason, Professor Thomas will discuss the palaces of Capodimonte, Portici, and Caserta in light of eighteenth-century ideas of reform.
If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about the glamor and challenges of royalty in Europe this is your chance!
This program is being offered for free, though donations are always welcomed, but we do ask that you register online to ensure we set out enough chairs!
