Sept. 13 – 27: Participate in the Fall Litter Sweep
Sponsored by the Town of Boone, all residents are invited to participate by cleaning up the property around their place of residence during this two-week period.
Sept 24 and 27: Kraut Creek Cleanup with Appalachian Voices
Wednesday, Sept. 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Meet at our office at 164 S. Depot Street, Boone, NC
Join Appalachian Voices on Wednesday, Sept.24 at 4 p.m.and/or Saturday, Sept. 27 to clean up Boone Creek — known locally as Kraut Creek — and celebrate our community’s resiliency one year after Hurricane Helene.
Our section of the creek starts at Appalachian Cookie Co. (on the corner of King Street and Poplar Grove Road Connector) and runs to Jimmy Smith Park next to Depot Street.
Meet us at the Appalachian Voices office at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and/or 9 a.m. on Saturday. We’ll direct volunteers to cleanup spots along the creek. Stay as long as you’re able –- the cleanup will last until about 7 p.m. on Wednesday and until around 1 p.m. on Saturday (unless we finish early)!
Wear clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting dirty or wet. Bring a hat for sun, boots, waders or water shoes if you have them. We’ll provide gloves, orange vests, pick up sticks and garbage bags.
We will also provide snacks, as well as the chance to win prizes for your cleanup efforts.
Sept. 27: “Boone Clean-Up Day” and 1 Year Anniversary of Hurricane Helene
The Town of Boone will be awarding prizes of $100, $50 and $25 for the most unusual litter found on the roadside and streams within the town limits. To enter the contest, simply bring in the unusual litter between the hours of 9:00am – 1:00pm on Sept 27th.
Let’s honor the strength of our community, protect Boone’s waterways, and make Kraut Creek a cleaner, healthier place for everyone!
