Beth Raps, PhD, is presenting a workshop geared towards nonprofits wanting to bolster more funding outside of grant opportunities. The workshop is being hosted at the Hunger and Health Coalition and is offered to nonprofits only. The event is free for those in attendance; HHC would accept a $30 donation for food costs but it is not mandatory.
Beth is a professional fundraiser with four decades’ experience with a solution to the problem of grants getting harder to come by for all nonprofits nationally, including nonprofits in Boone and Watauga County having been hit very hard by the storm.
The solution starts with nonprofits learning (or re-learning) how to focus on the sustainable strategy of securing gifts rather than grants to help them (a) reduce grant dependency and (b) establish their funding base more strongly.
That’s what Beth will teach in this workshop called "Beyond Grants: Sustainable Funding Is in Your Reach.” Although grants are not sustainable, the connection we have with the people who love us— allies and stakeholders — is. The statistically most successful way to raise money is to ask those who care about us to support us, as personally as possible.
In a fun and engaging way, Beth will guide participants in roleplaying how to ask for gifts directly, using natural wording that doesn’t sound salesy or feel “icky,” then help them unpack their learning and bring it home through active discussion.
