About The Workshop
In this workshop we want to explore movement as a way to expand our perception, our senses and the way we think when we move.
we will play with attention as a tool where to find a presence that is opening to focus.
Bringing our knowledge that is coming from different practices we will investigate many ways to be in relations; we will study our movements and our dance, diving into mechanics and imaginations, playfulness and deep listening.
We are researching how to be bodies in the midst of this political global humanitarian crisis, we want to investigate how to broke bubbles and how the impact with the real is bringing us into a no end reaearch and ispiration. The way we think is affecting the way we move, the way we move is affecting the way we think. We want research more how to be better human beings ready to bring change and big heart in the world
About teachers:
Shifu Ash
Shifu Ash is a dance movement researcher, philosopher, choreographer & visual artist based in Mumbai, India. His expertise lies in movement practices such as Wing Chun, Aikido, Modern Contemporary Dance and Contact Improvisation with an experience of 20 years. He is the founder of Combat Dance practice, which merges philosophies of martial art, dance, and movement science. He is also a former member of CID-UNESCO Paris (International Dance Council) and the founding member & CEO of ProDancer Infotech PVT Ltd. He has also choreographed for a feature film in India, Kalki 2898 AD and is actively involved in curating international dance festivals such as the Partner Dance International Festival (www.partnerdancefestival.com), India Contact Festival (www.indiacontactfestival.com) & Unite Dance Camp.
As a movement practitioner he has trained with number of masters like: Grandmaster IP Chun, Nancy Stark Smith, David Zambrano, Frey Faust, Sara Shelton Mann, Kira Kirsch, Andrew De Lotbinière Hardwood, Akram Khan, Desmond Richardson, Era Jouravlev, Stephanie Godino, Terence Lewis, Mia Michael, Sonya Tayeh, Anjelika Doniy, Danny Ezralow, Ohad Naharin… to name a few
Nica Portavia
Nica Portavia is an Italian dancer, teacher and researcher of Contact Improvisation, who fell in love with Contact Improvisation very early on. She mainly trained with teachers including Steve Paxton, Daniel Lepkoff, Charlie Morrissey, Angelika Doney, Asaf Bacharach, KJ Holmes, Anya Cloud. She is collaborating with Karen Nelson co-teaching their project 'Faking it with gravity' and performing together their piece 'Smaller' .She is an organizer of national and international dance events, including the Italycontactfest (International CI Festival which takes place in Italy and has now reached its tenth edition: www.italycontactfest.com); Being Touch Festival (www.beingtouch.org), and as part of a group the Ecite 2022 Portugal. Sliding Scale Contribution (90–130€)
We offer a sliding scale to make this workshop accessible to more people. Please choose an amount between 90€ and 130€ that feels right for you. Paying on the higher end helps support the artists and contributes to covering the space rental and other costs.
