Writing With Robbie

Writing with Robbie is a creative wellbeing project led by spoken-word artist Robbie (Beneath The Tracksuit), developed as part of Flamms Weekend at Bodmin’s International Arts Festival. The project invites local people to explore journaling and free-verse poetry as tools for self-expression, reflection, and connection, laughs and wonder, without the pressure or rules often associated with traditional poetry.

Across four small, supportive workshops at the Reading Room, participants are guided to write honestly and freely, starting from personal journaling and shaping their words into expressive poems with the opportunity to perform during Flamms Weekend. No previous writing experience is needed, and sharing is always optional. The focus is on voice, authenticity, and creating a safe space where people can write as they are.

Alongside the workshops, a large handmade community book will be available throughout February, inviting the wider public to contribute thoughts, reflections and short poems. The project culminates in a relaxed sharing event, offering participants the chance to have their work heard in a supportive environment.

At its heart, the project celebrates everyday voices and places community experience at the centre of the festival.

This will be supported by Cornwall Minds Reading Room.

Poetry will be recorded in a unique poetry handmade book created by the artists from intoBodmin.

The Reading Room is a welcoming, accessible community space in the heart of Bodmin. It’s already a place where people come to sit, read, and connect, which makes it a natural fit for a project focused on honest writing and self-expression. The informal, relaxed setting helps remove the intimidation often linked to traditional arts venues and makes it easier for people to take part.

The workshops will run on Saturdays throughout February : 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th. Each session will start 2:00pm and run for approximately 2 hours. With an optional performance on Sunday 1st March.
