Whether you’re completely new to sock knitting or just need a confidence boost to tackle heels and toes our Sock Knitting Classes are the perfect way to get started.

This structured step-by-step course will guide you through the entire sock-making process – from choosing the right yarn to casting off your very own handmade sock!

🧶 What You’ll Learn:

Session One Half Day: Foundations & Getting Started

We’ll begin with a relaxed discussion to demystify:

• The anatomy of a sock
• 
  
• How to measure the foot correctly
• 
  
• Knitting in the round using circular needles and DPNs (double pointed needles)
• 
  
• The best yarns and fibres for comfortable durable socks

Then it’s time to cast on!

• Start the ribbed cuff
• 
  
• Begin knitting the leg of the sock
• 
  
• Homework: Continue knitting the leg at home ready to tackle the heel in the next class

Session Two – Full Day: Mastering the Heel & Foot

This full day session dives into the trickier but oh-so-satisfying bits:

• Knit the heel flap using two needles
• 
  
• Work the clever heel turn (it’s like sock magic!)
• 
  
• Learn how to pick up stitches for the gusset
• 
  
• Reduce stitches gradually to shape the foot

Homework: Continue knitting the foot at home stopping about 2 inches before the toe.

Session Three – Half Day: Toes Techniques & Next Steps

• Learn toe decreases
• 
  
• Use the Kitchener stitch to create an invisible seam at the toe
• 
  
• Finish your sock – and guess what? Only two ends to sew in!

We’ll wrap up with a discussion on:

• How to make matching socks
• 
  
• Simple ways to add lace cables and textures to your next pair
• 
  
• Resources and tutorials for continuing your sock knitting journey at home

Homework: Get that second sock on your needles and start matching them up like a pro!
