Blowing Rock Area Volunteer Workday

We’d love for you to join us for a volunteer workday on the Rich Mountain trails near Trout Lake. This week, we’ll be cutting back foliage along the trail and tackling some water drainage issues that have been causing damage. Your help will make a big difference in keeping this much-loved trail in great shape.

Since the weather up there can be unpredictable, be sure to dress in layers. We’ll have tools and gloves ready to go—just remember to bring your own food and water for the day.

The Trout Lake parking area is a bit tricky to find. It is off of Shulls Mill Rd. Coming off of Hwy 221 from Blowing Rock, look for the signs for the Parkway. Turn right headed to the Parkway BUT TURN LEFT right away onto Shulls Mill Rd. You will go under the Parkway and take the 2nd right WHICH LOOKS LIKE A SIDEWALK! but is the access road to the parking area. Please be careful and polite to walkers on this narrow access road.

Coming along the Parkway follow the signs to Blowing Rock (Shulls Mill is the road between the Parkway and Hwy 221). But take the road to the right and go down the hill and under the Parkway to the 2nd right. That is the access road to parking area.
