AFFORDABLE HOUSING ON BLOCK ISLAND

HOUSING FORUM, September 13th

BIRA is sponsoring a Housing Forum on Saturday, September 13 from 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. at the St. Andrew's Parish Center on Spring Street. The purpose of the forum is to present information on the shortage of housing on Block Island and what is being considered to address this problem. The forum will be of interest not only to those in need of housing, but also to all current Block Island homeowners and renters.

An overview of the history of low/affordable/attainable housing on Block Island will be presented as will the current status of available housing. Ordinances that affect housing stock will also be covered. The Block Island Housing Board will then present its work on the housing project on the West Side, followed by a presentation by the Block Island Housing Initiative, who will explain the grants available for homeowners to create year-round housing, as well as the rollout of a new program to subsidize rentals to year-round residents. Ample time will be allowed at the end of the presentations for questions and answers.
