Get ready for the ultimate celebration of nostalgia drag racing at Bangers & Mash on Friday and Saturday, September 19-20, 2025, at Sydney Dragway! This two-day event promises high-octane thrills as we relive the golden era of drag racing. The excitement begins with a test day on Friday, setting the stage for Saturday’s main event, packed with action and unforgettable moments.
What to Expect:
-Nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars – Feel the earth shake as these beasts thunder down the strip!
AA Fuel Altereds – Chaos at its finest as these wild machines go all out.
-Vintage Gas – A massive contingent of racers from New Zealand is coming to challenge the Aussies.
-Nostalgia Pro Stock – Classic muscle cars burning rubber like it's 1975.
-Front-Engine Dragsters – Relive true vintage thrills with no rear engines allowed.
Plus, even more nostalgic fun:
-Hot Rod Mayhem – Pre-1948 hot rods racing down the quarter-mile.
-Veteran & Vintage Speedsters – These beauties race over the 1/8 mile, taking you back in time.
-Retired Race Car Corral – A stunning Show & Shine featuring legendary cars from racing’s past.
-Automotive & Performance Swap Meet – Gates open at 6:30 AM for an old-school swap meet—bring your parts and trade like the good ol’ days!

Bangers & Mash Classes
• Nostalgia & Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars – Nitro Funny Cars running to either NHRA Nostalgia Funny Car or Outlaw Funny Car rules
• AA/Fuel Altereds
• Vintage Gas: Split into the following brackets:
o A/Vintage Gas: 0-9.99
o B/Vintage Gas: 10.00 and slower
NOTE: If minimum of 6 cars is not met in one or both fields, category will run as one combined class
• Nostalgia Pro Stock
• Front-Engine Dragsters: Split into the following classes
o V8 Supercharged
o V8 Naturally Aspirated
o 6 Cylinder all configurations
NOTE: If minimum of 6 cars not met in one or more fields, categories will be run as combined classes as necessary
• Nostalgia Altereds: Pre-1970s bodied Altereds splits into the following categories
o V8 Supercharged
o V8 Naturally Aspirated
o 6 Cylinder all configurations
NOTE: If minimum of 6 cars not met in one or more fields, categories will be run as combined classes as necessary
• Hot Rod Mayhem – Pre-1948 hot rods split into the following categories:
o 6.99 and quicker
o 7.00-8.99
o 9.00-10.99
o 11.00-12.99
o 13.00 and slower
NOTE: If minimum of 6 cars not met in one or more fields, categories will be run as combined classes as necessary
• Veteran & Vintage Speedsters – Running to the 1/8 mile
• Nostalgia Exhibition (by application only)
General Rules
• All IHRA Australia general safety and compliance rules apply
• All racers running between 10.00 and 12.99 that don’t have an IHRA Australia licence will require a day licence which can be applied for on the IHRA Australia website
• All racing will be to Chicago Shootout format with minimum one qualifier for non-nitro categories
• Sydney Dragway reserves the right to re-classify or decline entries to ensure class compliance
Grasser Australia Vintage Gas Rules 2024
All Gassers will run the Chicago Shootout format with the field split down the middle giving you the A&B bracket to double the action.
All Gassers must comply with the Vintage gas rules available in the link on Sydney Dragway Website under this event.
