Something massive is taking shape on the eastern horizon — a 15-foot, 5,000-pound Percheron horse sculpture brought to life by world-renowned artist Andy Scott. Celebrate this bespoke work of art at a public dedication ceremony and see Colorado Springs’ newest landmark.
About the Artist:
Scottish sculptor Andy Scott, celebrated worldwide for works like The Kelpies in Scotland, is known for transforming thousands of pieces of raw steel into monumental yet graceful forms. His sculptures span the globe, each honoring the spirit of the communities where they stand.
This September, his newest creation, Belle, a monumental Percheron draft horse, will be installed at the entrance to the new Percheron community in eastern Colorado Springs.
Inspired by local history and Ruth Banning’s legacy of hard-working Percherons to power her Coal & Ice business, the piece stands as both cultural landmark and tribute to the strength, heritage, and transformation of Colorado Springs.
The public is invited to celebrate at the Sculpture Dedication Ceremony on Thursday, September 4 at Percheron.
Then, continue the experience at a special Artist Talk with Andy Scott on Friday, September 5 at 7:00PM at Meanwhile Block, located at 119 W. Costilla St. Colorado Springs, CO 80903, where he will share his creative journey and the role of public art in shaping place.
