Engine Shed - Concert of New Music Celebrating Rail 200 at Shildon Locomotion Museum

Join us for a performance of a new bespoke composition to celebrate 200 years of the railways at Shildon Locomotion Museum. Songs, sounds and strings, telling stories of railways, industry and people from rail communities. This is a free event supported by Stockton and Darlington 26 Miles community fund.

Enjoy the performance of a powerful new work by Shildon-born Deborah Shaw (artist name, Aurora Engine) and Tesseris String Quartet.

The piece explores rail history through music while amplifying voices often unheard. Commissioned through Making Music’s “Adopt a Music Creator” initiative and supported by PRS Foundation and Creative Scotland, the composition explores sounds of the railways, whilst reimagining stories of trains, industry and voices within railway communities.

The work features song, harp and collected field recordings from George Stephenson’s Twizell locomotive.

This performance is free of charge and no pre-booked tickets are required.
