Speaker: Dr. Lauren Harrington (University of York)
Abstract: Transcription of speech is a time-consuming task that many believe can be "solved" by the use of technology. The use of AI within policing is presently of great interest, with results of a recent FOI request revealing that at least five police forces in England and Wales are now using this technology for the purposes of transcribing police interview data, and that a further third of police forces are considering or actively exploring options. In this talk, I will present findings from my PhD and several pilot studies that myself and colleagues at the University of York have conducted on this topic, exploring the implications regarding the integration of speech technology into the transcription of police interviews.
