Baby loss awareness week: a conversation for change

Miscarriage affects around one in four pregnancies, yet access to care remains unequal across the UK. Specialist support is often only offered after three losses, leaving many families to navigate early pregnancy loss alone.

Join us for an evening of conversation and creativity as we explore the Graded Model of Care, a research-backed approach developed by Tommy’s and the University of Birmingham. Piloted at Birmingham Women’s Hospital it recommends phased, compassionate care following one miscarriage - including mental health support, early tests, and ongoing care in future pregnancies. The model has the potential to transform care across the NHS but its rollout depends on political will, public awareness, and wider support.

The evening includes a panel discussion with clinicians, researchers and people with lived experience, followed by a candle-making activity. You can take your candle home or light it with us at 7pm for Tommy’s Wave of Light, a national moment of remembrance and reflection for babies lost during pregnancy or shortly after birth. Whether you come to honour your own experience or to support others, this is a space for reflection, creativity and quiet connection.
