Make your very own early American Shaker Tree of Life Historic Theorem Painting in the beginner's class! Discover the rich history and techniques of Theorem Painting, a cherished Early American art form that flourished in Colonial New England during the late 18th Century. In this workshop, you will recreate a 9x12 portrait of an Early American symbol circa 1854 that embodies the spirit of the Shaker community. Guided by an experienced instructor, Peggy Allen will teach the art of applying oil paint with brushes to a cotton velveteen fabric board using a series of pre-cut stencils. This process allows you to create a portrait that radiates the allure of hand-painted, traditional artistry.
This workshop is structured to be inclusive of all skill levels, with no prior experience necessary. Participants will be guided step by step through the process of creating a Theorem Painting, culminating in a finished piece to take home. A preparatory practice session will be held to familiarize attendees with the techniques. The workshop also features a collection of Theorem Paintings from diverse artists, along with an overview of historical context.
