The $40 Registration will go towards providing Marshals, Medical Staff, Media Coverage, and Medals. The $40 Registration includes your entry to the Fresno Scottish Highland Gathering and Games.
Tournament time is planned from 10am to 5pm. There will be a break for LUNCH and we have been requested to walk in the short PARADE (TBD).
Company of The Gauntlet and Rose, Inc. is a 501c3 Charitable Nonprofit and will be coordinating and promoting this tournament in collaboration with Buhurt International, Medieval Combat USA, and Empire of Medieval Pursuits.
The California Classic will feature full contact historical medieval combat with armored fighters competing in several categories of duels (1v1) and a 5v5 melee tournament wearing medieval armor and wielding rebated steel weapons. This is not a choreographed stage fight this is the real deal. The louder you cheer the harder they fight.

All teams who are registered with Buhurt International will be eligible to earn points and ALL teams will be locked into their rosters prior to the drawing of the bracket. The registration deadline is September 1, 2025 midnight Pacific Standard Time.
Any team not showing up or otherwise withdrawing from the tournament after September 1, 2023 midnight PST will be penalized according to Buhurt International rules and will forfeit any potential travel/food/lodging reimbursements for the event offered by Company of The Gauntlet and Rose.
The Highland Games is our major sponsor and has requested us to participate in the short parade (1/4 mile) with team banners dressed in armor as part of the Opening Ceremony. The Opening Ceremony is tentatively set for about 12-12:30pm.
Weapons check is strictly from 7am until 9am on September 16, 2023 and no weapons or shields will be inspected after 9am.
Check in at the tournament field will be open from 8am until 9am Saturday morning for fighters and staff. All fighters and staff must check and sign waivers.
Fighters will need to provide their own sports equipment (armor and weapons).
Authenticity requirements will not strictly apply to this Challenger tournament however period footwear and sabatons are required. The Knight Marshal may reject any unsafe, rusted, dented, or otherwise unsightly equipment. Yellow Cards will be issued for rusted, dented, or otherwise unsightly equipment.
Medieval Combat USA and Buhurt International rules will be followed and enforced by the marshals for steel fighting. The Knight Marshal's interpretation of the rules will be final on the inspection. Only designated team captains may challenge a call during tournament fighting.
A repair table and tools will be available. No modern repairs will be permitted. Linen or cloth adhesive tape will be permitted for repairs for the duration of one round only.
For the Fresno Highland Gathering and Games event there is no cost for fighters/support, onsite tent camping is available at no additional cost, free camping is encouraged, please bring your own tents and bedding, no pets are allowed at the Fresno Highland Gathering and Games, above ground fires only, any fires must be actively tended with a fire extinguisher, no smoking is permitted in grass area you must utilize a paved parking area for smoking, and all trash must be left at the dumpsters. Fresno Highland Gathering and Games will charge for trash left at campsites.
Camping on site is encouraged from Friday afternoon through Sunday noon. There are several hotels within 20 minutes of site and fighters/support are welcome to make their own arrangements.

There will be food available for purchase at the Fresno Highland Gathering and Games and ATM's on site, fighters and support staff will be responsible for their own meals, and potable water will be provided.
