For November's Sunday Sounds, we're very excited to welcome Brendan O'Connell & Matt of O’Connell & Co:
"O’Connell & Co came out of the songwriting partnership O’Connell & Love between Brendan O’Connell and Larry Love (The Alabama 3 frontman). They’ve writing and singing together for over 20 years and have three albums under their belts - Ghost Flight (2006), Minesweeping (2015) and Will You Be There? (2021), with 4 and 5 star reviews across the music press.
With O’Connell & Co, Brendan and the band perform a collection of brand new songs and some O’Connell & Love favourites. They are currently working on a new album, out early next year.
Brendan’s compositions reflect his broad range of musical influences. He plays guitar in Los Twangueros a Hastings-based flamenco Balearic band popular with Ibiza DJs, and regularly plays tenor banjo and mandolin in Irish sessions across London, Hastings (The Albion) and Ireland. Combining these two very different styles brings unusual melodies. Some of his songs also have echoes of Leonard Cohen, Gipsy Kings, Bob Dylan, Jaques Brel and more.
O’Connell & Co includes Matt Armstrong on double bass and Danny Brittain on guitar and backing vocals, both regular players in the Albion Skiffle Sessions, and Andy Crookes on drums. They will also be appearing at the Red Rooster Festival, Suffolk, in May 2025. Looking forward to playing The Brickmaker's! "
Hosted by Tom Cole:
"Steeped in the traditions of American folk, country, gospel and blues, Tom's is an Americana style of Alt Country meets Greenwich Village Folk Revival.
Hailing from Hastings on the South Coast of England, Tom crafts heartfelt songs from everyday life, with a softly understated vocal style underpinned by a mix of Merle Travis style fingerpicking and country flatpicking.
Tom's new album 'Stops on the Way to Here' was released 22nd March 2024. Previous EPs 'The Road Less Travelled' and 'Ramblin' Man' are also available at tomcolemusic.co.uk and on streaming services."
