ONLINE Ya Gotta Lead the Band: What Every Jazz Singer Must Know About Counting Off, Cuing, and Real-

As Abbey Lincoln sang, “You Gotta Pay the Band,” but to sing jazz with confidence and authority, you’ve also got to lead the band. Whether at open mics, jam sessions, or gigs, a singer’s ability to communicate clearly with the band in real time can make all the difference to how the performance feels and flows.

In this online workshop, veteran jazz vocalist Andrea Wolper shares practical tools to help singers take charge without stress. Topics include what to tell the band before a tune begins, how to count off with clarity and intent, and how to use verbal and non-verbal cues while performing. Drawing on over thirty years of experience, Andrea offers strategies to improve real-time communication, reduce uncertainty, and prevent train wrecks so singers can feel more grounded and confident, and can focus on expression, connection, and freedom on the bandstand.
