Central Oregon is deceptively beautiful, apparently peaceful and unthreatening. Yet, nearly every day, the unthinkable happens in our region. A devastating cyber-attack occurs. A wildfire ravages thousands of acres and destroys lives and property. Street violence erupts. A child is trafficked. A woman is raped. A parent is murdered. A co-worker commits suicide. A tragic car wreck takes precious lives. A son or daughter overdoses. Millions of dollars are embezzled. A business is burglarized. An innocent shopper is accosted in a parking lot. A mentally ill shooter goes on a rampage in a local Safeway. All is not so placid and safe. Violence and loss are not just happening in big cities. And lurking off the coast is the threat of the Cascadia Subduction Zone. An earthquake and tsunami would change everything in Oregon. So, how do you prepare for the unimaginable? How do you prepare for the risks you don’t see coming? What contingency plans do you need? How will you respond? How will you recover? How do you build resilience and survivability?
