Light Up the Season with Northern Lights Fir Trees
Bring the magic of the aurora borealis into your home with these stunning freestanding-stained glass fir trees! In this hands-on class, you’ll create your own colorful, triangular tree inspired by the swirling colors of the northern lights—mounted in a solid wood base and ready to display on your mantel, windowsill, or holiday table.
This project is beginner-friendly and a fun way to explore stained glass cutting, foiling, and soldering while playing with rich color combos and flowing, abstract shapes.
By the end of class, you’ll take home two vibrant, handcrafted stained glass trees that stand on their own—and a glowing sense of accomplishment (and maybe a little glass addiction, too!).
In the first half, you will learn about glass types, how to score and break glass for complex pattern designs, grinding the finish shape, and applying copper foil. During the second half, you will solder, make and add attach hooks, add patina (if desired), wax and your sun-catcher will be ready to hang.
