About the event

The Veil Between Worlds — A Samhain Reflection Potluck to follow

Join us for a Samhain Celebration—our festival of memory, renewal, and the final harvest.

What is Samhain?
Samhain (pronounced SOW-in) is the ancient Celtic festival marking the third and final harvest of the year. Where Lughnasadh celebrates the grain harvest and Mabon the fruits and vegetables, Samhain was the time when communities culled their herds, preserving meat, hides, and stores for the winter. It is also a time of honoring ancestors, embracing endings, and stepping into the mystery of the new year.

While Unitarian Universalists aren’t strictly Pagan, we welcome people of all faiths to unite under our seven shared principles. Our Seventh Principle—respect for the interdependent web of all existence—beautifully complements Samhain’s themes of death and renewal, remembrance, and reverence for the cycles of nature.

Themes:
• Facing the wisdom of darkness
• Honoring ancestors and beloved dead
• Letting go and beginning again
• Sharing the harvest in justice and generosity

Potluck Foods & Flavors:

Bring a dish inspired by the final harvest—meats or meat substitutes, hearty autumn vegetables, and sustaining foods for the dark months ahead. Ideas include:
• Roasted meats, stews, or plant-based “meatloaf” or chili
• Mushrooms, beans, and root vegetables
• Apples, pumpkins, pears, and cranberries
• Breads, cornbread, or rolls (please label vegan/GF)
• Spiced desserts and mulled cider

Vegetarian and vegan dishes are warmly welcome. Please label your dish clearly.

What to Bring:
• A seasonal dish to share (meat, vegetarian, or vegan)
• A photo or token of a loved one for our shared altar of remembrance
• Your own plate, cup, and utensils (zero-waste friendly)
• An open heart and a spirit of reverence

This is an all-ages, inclusive event—whether you’re UU, Pagan, curious, or simply love autumn’s mystery, you are welcome in our circle.

Let’s share the harvest, honor our ancestors, and celebrate the turning of the year—together.

Blessed Samhain, and blessed be.
