Purnakala School of Indian Art is delighted to bring in-person traditional Indian art workshops to the Seattle community! Join us for a series of workshops, each showcasing an iconic art form from India.
We will together explore the history of Indian art, its rich storytelling, and how factors like topography, culture, religion and the dynasties which once ruled these lands have influenced it.
In each workshop you will create a "masterpiece" to take home while learning tips and tricks specific to the art forms and mediums used. In the first module, from Sept 2025 to Jan 2026, we will be exploring Classical Painting Traditions of Southern India.
___________
Workshop 1: Tanjore Painting (September 2025)
We are starting with Tanjore painting, a classical South Indian art form originating from Tanjavuru in Tamil Nadu. Tanjore paintings are renowned for its rich relief work, radiant gold foil, and dazzling Kundan embellishments.
In this immersive 2-day in-person workshop, you will:
- Learn the history, cultural ethos and technical nuances behind making an authentic Tanjore painting
- Make and take home a beautiful 8x10 Tanjore painting made with pure 22 karat gold foil.
