It is the prequel to the classic comedy Cosi and comes replete with its own diverse cast of uniquely unusual Australian characters. It's 1962 and while the rest of the world is worried about the Cuban missile crisis, a teenage Lewis is spending his summer dreaming of Aliens, unwitting of the inexorable approach of manhood on a housing commission on the outskirts of Melbourne.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the frank nature of some of the adult themes in this script all actors in this production should be 18 or older.
Lewis 18-20's M
A teenage boy figuring out what kind of man he is likely to grow up to be. He is sweet natured and honest. He spends the summer obsessed with aliens. Has a friendship with Dulcie and Brian.
Dulcie 18-20's F
A teenage girl struggling with what it will mean to be a woman in the face of her troubling teenage life. She is smart and idealistic and dreams of angels. She is a bold, brash girl. A bit of a tomboy who wears her heart on her sleeve. A unique and challenging character that could suit being played by a first nations actor of POC.
Narrator 40's M
A grown up Lewis looking back on his formative years. He comments on the action happening in the play. This role was played by the author in the original production.
Norma 40's F
Lewis' mother, raising two kids and supporting her mother at home as best as she can. She is the grounding force in an environment that seems to be increasingly filled with obsession, criminality, and insanity.
Bev 18-20's F
Lewis' older sister. She's dreming of falling in love. No nonsense like her mother.
Grandma Older F
Lewis' grandmother. Stern, she often argues with Norma about their living arrangements. She is obsessed with heritage and the history of the English royal family, and worried about her mental decline in her later years. She loves her budgie, Sam.
Eric 40's-50's M
Lewis' father, who had disappeared some years ago, and is suddenly back home. A mysterious and charismatic character, he has a less-than-legal scheme to win back the highly-skeptical love of Norma.
Brian 18-20's M
A teenage boy and friend of Lewis. He is obsessed with losing his virginity.
Mr Pisano 30's-40's M
The local postal worker, who is obsessed with the neighbourhood clearly displaying their street numbers as he gradually declines into madness.
Mrs Irvin 40's M
Dulcie's mother. A harsh woman who is deeply religious and concerned with her public image. She finds Dulcie to be a constant frustration.
Richard 40's-50's M
Norma's older brother and Lewis' uncle. He is a flamboyant theatre type who has a Japanese girlfriend who fascinates the family, particularly Lewis. He takes it upon himself to 'educate' Lewis on manhood.
Stan 40's-50's M
Dulcie's stepfather. An unemployed ex-con, a drinker. A darker character in this story.
Beatrice 18-20's F
A teenage girl who emigrated to Australia from the Netherlands. Speaks Dutch and is learning English. Most of her vocabulary consists of swearing. She is missing an arm and wears a prosthetic.
Japanese Woman 30's-50's F
A Japanese woman who appears at several moments throughout the play, as she becomes a point of fascination and wonder for Lewis. A non-speaking role, she is almost an ethereal presence in the play.
