About the event

The intriguing life of the Coelacanth
In the 1970s, the Ulster Museum acquired one of the most extraordinary specimens. Long thought extinct, the oldest known coelacanth fossils are over 410 million years old, but this living coelacanth was found in 1938 in deep waters off South Africa.

Join Helen James, Senior Curator of Natural Sciences, for a few insights into the life of the Coelacanth, an ancient group of lobe-finned fish. Explore the history of its discovery and subsequent research.

This is a free event however booking is necessary. Please meet in the 'Living World' gallery at the Ulster Museum.
