Presented by Down South Jazz Club
Join us at Club Sapphire on the 18th December for a “Cool Yule Jazz Night” featuring local and interstate musicians: Paul Dion (Reeds), Roger Clark (Alto Sax), Rory Clark (Keys), Barnaby Brigg (Bass), Ken Vatcher (Drums), and the delightful vocalist Becky Lupton as they present a mix of standards and Xmas songs all jazzed up in swinging arrangements.
Paul Dion, Barnaby Briggs and Ken Vatcher, all local musos, are of course well known to DSJC having played many times for the club. Roger and Rory Clark are travelling up to Merimbula from Melbourne especially for the event and have also entertained us in the past at Down South Jazz Club and many Merimbula Jazz Festivals.
This will be the first appearance at the Down South Jazz Club for Becky Lupton, now also a local, and we look forward very much to meeting her. Becky has been singing since her high school days, where she performed in school musicals and was co-founder of the Endeavour Theatre Company in Bega. She was a member of the Melbourne Chorale and the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Choir and has performed in all the major venues in Melbourne and Sydney. Since returning to the Bega Valley, she has been in musicals with Theatre Onset, Spectrum Theatre Group and Dreamcoat Productions. She memorably sang backups to Mark Seymore in the Melbourne Workers Theatre production of ‘Westgate’ and currently sings with The Sugarants and The Jonathan Richman Experience. Being a fan of the iconic jazz vocalist Ella Fitzgerald, Becky is looking forward to rendering some favourite Xmas songs in that swinging style for the Down South Jazz Club.
So join us in what promises to be a great night, with a monster Christmas raffle and a wonderful way to end the year.
This fun evening of jazz will cost $20 for jazz club members and $25 for visitors with music commencing at 7.30 pm (doors open at 7 pm).
