Practical skills on managing compassion fatigue or vicarious trauma.

This is event is for staff working in Primary Care in Nottingham & Nottinghamshire

To attend this event, please register for the online part one on 24th September or view the webinar on NATH Youtube post event.

This is a repeat of the morning session.



Aim of this Event

Join us for this session:

1. To provide a follow up face to face session on the impact of working with trauma, following the online introductory session.

2. To provide a refresher on the overview of the psychological impact of trauma.

3. To provide a refresher on recognising the impact of working with trauma on ‘helpers’.

4. To engage in exercises designed to increase individual awareness of the impact of working with trauma on themselves.

5. To engage in exercises to develop skills to respond to the potential for vicarious trauma in ‘helpers’.

6. To consider how to ensure the working environment supports elements which are conducive to ‘helping the helper’, such as creating psychological safety and containment.

7. To develop an individual protective VT plan.

8. To sign post to additional resources as required.

All clinical and non-clinical staff involved in the patient journey



Objectives


1. To develop an understanding of trauma and the associated diagnoses given to people experiencing the impact of trauma, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and complex PTSD.

2. To develop an awareness of how working with trauma can lead to a range of responses such as burnout, compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma and secondary trauma in health workers.

3. To consider our individual responses to working with trauma, and develop insights into our stress signs.

4. To learn a range of skills which can be supportive for individuals who work with trauma.

5. To become aware of ways in which the working environment can be supportive to individuals working with trauma.

6. To build an awareness of factors which increase psychological safety and containment.

7. To start to develop an individual support plan, including insights and skills which can be protective against vicarious trauma.

8. To be signposted to additional resources which are available to support helpers who work with trauma.






Cancellation Policy

If you cancel with more than 5 working days' notice, there will be no charge. If you cancel within 5 working days and we cannot fill the space, then you/your organisation will still be charged. If you do not attend then you/your organisation will be charged.

If you are leaving your organisation or you have a member of staff due to leave and you/they are booked onto a chargeable course with us, it is the organisations responsibility to inform NATH of this. This is to ensure that you/they are removed from any chargeable course with more than 5 working days before the event date and therefore will not incur any costs. If you/they are removed within 5 working days of the chargeable course then the cost of the place will be chargeable to the organisation.
