Winter Seed Sowing

Does the thought of starting seeds indoors seem intimidating with the lights, trays, and threat of disease? Then skip that process and go to something much simpler: winter sowing. Winter sowing was pioneered around 20 years ago in upstate New York, but more and more gardeners are experimenting with it today. Winter sowing is a simple, cost-effective, and low-maintenance way of starting seeds for the garden. Join Certified Master Gardener Carol Shirk to learn how to get started in this simple and fun way of gardening.

Notes & Requirements: Bring along a clean, one-gallon plastic jug to build and take home your first mini greenhouse.

Carol has gardened for over 65 years and has been a Master Gardener for over 30 years. Her experience and training will help you as you experiment with this exciting method of starting a new season.
