About the event

SW Native Groups: Pueblos?
The US Government recognizes more than 500 different Indigenous in the United States. Colorado has 2 federally recognized tribes, none that are Pueblo. And so, why are some tribes referred to as Pueblos and other are not? The scientific community acknowledges the predecessors of these present-day Pueblo communities inhabited large portions of what is now referred to as the US Southwest. This presentation explains why the term 'Pueblo' is used and its significance to those groups to which the term is applied. Presented by Jon Ghahate, of the Pueblos of Laguna and Zuni of the State of New Mexico, and of the Turkey and Badger Clans. Jon is a Staff Educator at the Crow Canyon Archaeological Center in Cortez.
