Long before the convenience of pens and printers, the written word was rare, sacred—even revolutionary. From ancient temples to medieval scriptoria, the earliest writers made their own tools and pigments by hand. In this immersive workshop, you’ll step into that tradition by crafting your own reed pen and mixing natural inks using age-old methods and ingredients.
You’ll explore the art and science behind early writing—how berries, iron, charcoal, and vinegar became vibrant marks of communication—and how ink transformed from simple marks to powerful symbols of culture, identity, and change.
Participants will leave with a handmade writing tool, natural ink, and a deeper appreciation for the beauty of a handwritten line—crafted with intention, and made by you.
