About the event

School holiday program: Biodiversity art workshop
Discover your artistic side whilst creating a take-home artwork and learning about local threatened animals and plants.

About this Event

We're celebrating Biodiversity month!

In this biodiversity art workshop, kids will have fun learning basic illustration and watercolour skills as well as learning about some of our local threatened wildlife. You will also learn about what we can all do help protect our natural environment.

By the end of the workshop, you will have created your own watercolour wildlife artwork, learnt a bit more about our amazing native animals, and hopefully be inspired to get out in nature and continue to be creative.

This program is for children aged 8 - 12 years of age.

Please read important Information about bookings:

About our artist - Margot Hislop and Mango SEA

Margot has a background in art, marine biology and education. After many years working as an environmental educator for government departments, local Council, Not-for-Profits and community groups, she has merged these three areas and skills to create Mango SEA - where science, education and art meet.

Having drawn and painted wildlife all her life, that is the focus of her scientific illustration style of watercolour artworks. However, her artworks are not just pictures, they also provide educational messages about different species and habitats, or environmental information.

She has been taking families and school groups to explore our local rockpools for many years, where participants encounter animals they may never have known about or seen before. So they learn all about our intertidal environment, while having fun and getting their feet wet. Margot has also developed education programs and resources, written many magazine and book articles, as well as creating a children's book about the ocean environment and its inhabitants.
