About this Event

Background

The International Workshop on Financial System Architecture & Stability (IWFSAS) invites submissions for its 2025 annual conference on the theme “The Future of Global Financial Architecture.” As the global financial system undergoes profound transformations driven by economic shifts, geopolitical realignments, technological advancements, and the urgent need for sustainability, this conference seeks to explore how financial institutions, markets, and regulatory frameworks must evolve to ensure stability, resilience, and inclusivity.

We welcome high-quality theoretical, empirical, and policy-oriented research papers from academics, practitioners, and policymakers addressing key aspects of the evolving global financial system.

Aim and Topics

The global financial architecture stands at a pivotal crossroads. Amid profound geopolitical shifts, growing economic fragmentation, mounting debt vulnerabilities, and accelerating climate and technological transitions, the current framework for international finance is under mounting strain. Institutions and mechanisms established in the mid-20th century are facing increasing challenges to adapt to the complex and interconnected realities of the 21st century.

Emerging and developing economies are calling for a more equitable, representative, and responsive global financial system—one that addresses systemic imbalances, enhances resilience, and mobilizes finance at scale for sustainable development. At the same time, new actors, instruments, and platforms are reshaping the contours of global finance—from the rise of green and blended finance to the growing role of development banks, fintech, and digital currencies.

The global community is also grappling with urgent imperatives: financing climate action, managing sovereign debt crises, addressing the global commons, and reforming multilateral institutions to ensure inclusive governance. The evolution of the global financial architecture must therefore be grounded in principles of fairness, effectiveness, and sustainability.

We encourage submissions covering, but not limited to, the following areas:

  • Geopolitical Fragmentation and Financial Stability
  • The impact of geopolitical tensions on global capital flows and trade finance
  • The role of economic sanctions, financial de-risking, and currency realignments
  • De-dollarization and the rise of alternative reserve currencies
  • Reforming International Financial Institutions
  • The future of the IMF, World Bank, and regional development banks in a multipolar world
  • The role of financial institutions in post-crisis reconstruction and economic resilience
  • Cross-border payment systems and the evolution of global financial governance
  • The Role of Central Banks in a Changing World
  • Monetary policy coordination in a fragmented global economy
  • The impact of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) on global liquidity and capital flows
  • Managing inflation and financial stability in a high-debt environment
  • Technological Disruptions in Global Finance
  • The role of decentralized finance (DeFi) and blockchain in reshaping international banking
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning in financial risk assessment and policy design
  • The cybersecurity challenges of an increasingly digital global financial system
  • Sustainable and Inclusive Finance in Global Markets
  • The integration of climate risk into global financial regulation
  • Blended finance and innovative mechanisms to mobilize private capital for sustainable development
  • The role of financial inclusion in reducing global economic disparities
