Khun Somporn Intaraprayong, also known as Nall, is an accomplished artist whose style is unique and eccentric. An award-winning embroiderer, her signature hand-stitched embroidery, patchwork, upcycled materials, and repurposed clothing and accessories have traveled from humble origins to the global stage. A self-taught textile artist, she has been a presence in the Chatuchak Weekend Market for four decades, selling silks, vintage tribal textiles and clothes, as well as tribal antiques and silver jewelry. Khun Nall’s quirky hairstyle and oversized spectacles, complement her designs. Having always had an eye for style, she began making unconventional attire as early as 12 years old. During the Vietnam War, she bought used American GI uniforms and turned them into her own distinct garments. Even as a child, while fielding nasty comments from her peers, she felt proud of her accomplishments.
Patched-together vintage textiles, mostly handwoven materials, and cloth remnants reflect Khun Nall’s vision and spirit. Her inventiveness and passion have taken her to various regions of Thailand to teach women traditional and innovative sewing techniques. Her creations have been shown in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and throughout the United States. She is honored to have represented Thailand at the iconic International Folk Art Market held annually in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Khun Nall will bring several examples of her work and talk about what inspires her. Her talk will be followed by a brief demonstration of her personal embroidery style. This is a very special program, not be missed!
