Create a traditional Japanese Sashiko fabric patch
Need a patch for your favorite jeans or just want to add some flair? Join us for a fun (and free!) Friday night with local fiber artist, Renee Johnson, to learn the art of Japanese sashiko stitching while creating your own patch featuring one of three traditional Japanese motifs.
Renee will introduce the simple running stitch that is used in sashiko to create beautiful patterns that can also strengthen and repair fabrics. While having some similarities to Western style mending, the stitching technique, thread and needles are quite a bit different.
No experience is necessary, just come and select a patch with a pre-printed pattern and pick from many colors and types of sashiko threads. Try one or many colors!
This event is part of Main Street Studio’s fall programming featuring regional artisans practicing traditional Japanese craft. It is a celebration of patience, attention to detail, and a reverence for materials. Renee has a wealth of information to share about fabrics, threads, pattern design and good old fashion mending. We want everyone to be sewing in the Studio with us this fall!
