Artists Statement:

Jackie Gorring and Minna Graham create deeply personal and evocative works that, while grounded in distinct materials and approaches, share a common exploration of lived experience, emotional resonance, and the interplay between inner and outer worlds. Both artists engage dynamically with their environments, using spontaneous and experimental techniques to evoke strong emotional reactions. Gorring’s art reveals the extraordinary within the ordinary, and Graham’s sculptures spark wonder and introspection by confronting nature’s chaos. Their work explores the tension between order and disorder, highlighting how personal experiences shape their creative expressions.

Jackie Gorring’s printmaking and sculpture form a rich tapestry of narrative and observation. Drawing from the rhythms of home life, travel across Asia, part-time work, and encounters with the people and places around her, Jackie infuses her pieces with fragments of conversation, signage, family stories, and fleeting moments of insight. Her work is both intuitive and layered—a vibrant, dynamic dialogue with her surroundings that captures the extraordinary within the ordinary. Through this, she offers viewers a lens into her world, where personal experience is reimagined as shared, poetic reflection.

Minna Graham’s ceramic vessels emerge from a different, yet equally visceral, engagement with the world. Deeply inspired by the raw power of nature, her sculptural forms evoke the wild, unpredictable energy of natural landscapes. Using techniques such as carving, tearing, and stretching, and working with materials like ash, pigments, and natural additives, Minna channels the emotional intensity of wilderness into textured, tactile forms. Her work explores the tension between beauty and menace, offering what she calls “emotional landscapes” that mirror the complexity of human connection to nature.

Though working in different media, Jackie and Minna both use their practices to process and express the complexities of the human experience. Jackie’s works are grounded in social fabric and personal narrative, while Minna’s speak to the primal, often chaotic forces that shape our inner lives. Together, their works offer viewers multiple entry points into reflection—on memory, emotion, nature, and the richness of ordinary and extraordinary moments alike.
