Saturday morning we have Katharine Pichardo the President and CEO of Latino Victory as our breakfast speaker. Latino Victory has a track record of success in other states in turning out the Latino vote. The organization is planning to invest $4 million in Texas over the next 3 years to help achieve Democratic victories. There will be breakfast foods such as muffins, bagels and breakfast tacos available to attendees registered for the full convention.
We will have our business meeting in the morning and elect new Board members. If you wish to run or find out what it entails, please feel free to contact me. Only members of TDW or a TDW chapter can run or vote in elections.
Our Keynote Luncheon Speaker is Skye Perryman President and CEO of Democracy Forward. Named as one of the 2025 100 Most Influential People In The World by TIME Magazine, Ms. Perryman took the helm at Democracy Forward a few months after January 6, 2021, in the midst of rising extremism in communities and courts across the country. She has built a visionary team of legal, policy, and communications experts to confront anti-democratic extremism head-on while also using the law to advance progress and a bold vision for the future. Again, you need to either sign up for the full convention or purchase a luncheon ticket in order to have lunch. We will also have our Star award winners at this time and a parade of candidates for non-state-wide offices right after lunch.
In the afternoon we will have a series of workshops dealing with issues such as getting out the Latino vote, helping candidates in rural areas, reviving your chapter, organizing with AI, attracting young people to positions of leadership in Democratic organizations, finance and others
At our Gala Reception and Dinner we will honor Representative Gene Wu with our Oscar Mauzy Humanitarian award and Representative Mary Gonzalez with our Dr. Mae Jackson Outstanding Female Legislator Award.
Nancy Thompson, who serves as the Executive Director of Mothers Against Greg Abbott PAC, will be our Keynote Dinner Speaker. Nancy brings a passionate, grassroots perspective rooted in real-life impact and fearless advocacy. Her work inspires Democrats across Texas to stand up, speak out, and take action making her a compelling and timely voice for our convention.
It should be a great time for Democrats to socialize and learn. Hope to see you there! and encourage your friends to attend.
