This workshop is about the top of the scene—that first moment when you either feel a great connection with your partner or a sinking feeling that you’re alone in the universe. Don’t you want more of the great feeling and less of the sinking feeling?
Greg calls that great feeling The Join: the moment you know you’re together and everything is going to work out. It is about supporting, not understanding. It is about belonging to each other, even when you don’t know how. It is about moving before you talk. Every scene starts with a join, so you might as well learn The Join.
We’ll also dig into Greg’s 2nd-Beat Hack. In every long form, Greg asks, “What must happen because this is happening?” Not “what could happen,” but what must happen. This mindset supercharges second beats and heightening. We’ll work two-person realistic scenes and find clear, compelling second beats by following the must-happen logic.
Great improv isn’t just about being funny—it’s about finding truth in your comedy. This workshop focuses on authentic, emotionally grounded scene work with direct, personalized feedback from Greg Tavares. If you’re ready to ditch the gimmicks and build stronger, more impactful scenes, this workshop is for you.
You’ll practice
The Join: support first, move before you talk, lock in POV/energy together.
Playing truthful, relationship-driven scenes that generate organic comedy.
Applying the What Must Happen lens to discover second beats quickly and cleanly.
