Join us for the New Jersey State Police’s Battle of the Badges III Charity Softball Game at Skylands Stadium on Friday, August 15! Don’t miss an inspiring night of heroes, hope, and sports.
This year’s event will honor Sussex County Sheriff’s Office Supervisory Public Safety Dispatcher Shannon Thonus, who recently passed away at the age of 31 following a courageous battle with stage 4 cancer.
Shannon leaves behind her husband, Jim Thonus, a New Jersey State Trooper and U.S. Marine, and their two young daughters, aged 1 and 4. Originally intended to raise funds to support Shannon’s treatment, Battle of the Badges III will now help support her children’s future, standing as an evening of tribute, remembrance, and community unity.
So come to Skylands Stadium and support a great cause while cheering on the New Jersey State Police and the Pennsylvania State Police as they go head-to-head in a thrilling softball game. After the softball showdown, the Sussex County Miners take the field for a pivotal matchup against division rival Down East Bird Dawgs.
Event Schedule
3:30 PM: Gates open for Battle of the Badges III and Touch-a-Truck (hosted by the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office)
4:00–5:30 PM: Battle of the Badges III Charity Softball Game
6:30 PM: Miners pregame ceremonies, featuring a law enforcement honor guard, bagpipes, and motorcycle units
6:55 PM: National anthem
7:00 PM: NJSP helicopter ball drop/Ceremonial first pitch for Miners game
7:05 PM: Down East Bird Dawgs vs. Sussex County Miners
About Battle of the Badges
The Sussex County Miners, in partnership with the New Jersey State Police, Pennsylvania State Police, Sussex County Sheriff’s Office, and Dorso Community Foundation, are proud to present the annual Battle of the Badges charity event at Skylands Stadium in Augusta, NJ. Battle of the Badges helps raise funds to support first responders in need.
