Join us to celebrate the final weekend of Pohewa Pāhewa: Te Rūma and the energy of Māori music with one of our most legendary groups – U.H.P.
Upper Hutt Posse burst onto the scene in 1988 with the release of E Tu, touted as Aotearoa’s first rap record. Their kaupapa driven rhymes were a turning point in our music history and in 2018 the group were inducted into NZ Music Hall of Fame.
U.H.P. has been releasing albums consistently over the last four decades, delivering a Māoritanga take on rebel music. Four of their albums feature in Pohewa Pāhewa: Te Rūma and we are thrilled to be able to host an intimate acoustic set with them as part of the closing weekend of the exhibition.
Join us from 4pm for an opening set by two more legends of Aotearoa sound – James Pinker, musician, visual and sound artist and curator and Philip Kelly, artist, designer and musician.
U.H.P. lineup includes Dean Hapeteā a.k.a. Te Kupu (vocals/guitar), Ruben Gonzales (percussion) and M.C.Wiya (vocals/bass).
Also check out other Music events in Auckland, Arts events in Auckland, Entertainment events in Auckland.
Tickets for Whakarongo mai! U.H.P. and friends perform can be booked here.
